Lately I've been bothered more and more by how as a society we look to news/media outlets for information regarding issues. The reason I'm bothered is, it seems their is a disconnect between what we as a society 'carries-weight' and what truly matters and effects us. There I guess starts the divide at least for me; who decides what is important and what isn't.
Do we as the viewers truly dictate what is shown/talked about, or because of this wonderful capitalist economy and lax laws we are told what it is important and go with it because the 'experts' said so. Just thoughts here... Is anyone unbias... I know that I can not say I am unbias on all issues, I realize that; sometimes to a fault.
Just more thoughts here, maybe its nothing of the above mentioned; maybe we as a society can't handle the truth and so actually prefer to just not think or talk about things that actually matter, like war, money, family, education, health. We just want to be told things are being taken care of, and not be told how they are going to be taken care of.
In my eyes, we would rather concentrate all our love/hate/time/effort towards things that really don't carry much weight. Baiting our attention away from things that truly matter. Prime example is the Tiger Woods incident. I know not everyone will agree with me here, but his actions have nothing to do with the game of golf at all; if his actions did break the rules of golf.
Society has turned this incident into a soap opera, in the past months I heard the same thing over and over about this guy, while we had earth quakes, murders, deaths, massive job loses, international threats, threats by citizens.
There is this ongoing joke; in my circle of friends anyhow, that when a question arises concerning current topics - we say oh I wouldn't know, Tiger Woods was on all day. I missed all sorts of things going on since November 2009 because someone thought I should know when Tiger Woods takes a piss. It would be different if the only stations doing this was a lifestyle channel, but main news media outlets as well...
Who knows, maybe I should just find another outlet; oh wait they are all owned by the same people... well. I guess it's like my parents and grandparents joked about 'back-in-the-day;' "Oh no, we're going to miss Flipper, the Presidents on...
What I've learned from this is, I should just go with the flow, don't question anyone or anything... The experts are always right!!!

Learning something every day
WARNING ||| the following is my opinion, not the opinion or thoughts of others|| take it for what you will ||| but... fyi, I don't lie...
It doesn't matter how old I get, I seem to learn something all the time.
"Believe those who are seeking the truth. Doubt those who find it." ~Andre Gide
Things I've learned recently residing in Maryville Missouri.
- It is not okay in the Police's eyes to congregate on your own porch, especially if a black male is present... Maryville PD will show up claiming an angry black man is on the corner yelling at cars.
- It is not okay for a group of gentleman to 'congregate' outside; cleaning up the yard and having a good time... that is not allowed by Maryville sanction 001.332.444* note this is not a real sanction for those of you that it is not clear that I'm being totally sarcastic...
- It is not okay to question an officers intelligence nor his pathetic reasons over and over again...
- Is okay in Maryville, for certain people to do whatever they please, when they please... without reason, without just cause...
In short I've learned to respect and love the authority.

Video Games

Playing video games with my friends happens often. Sports games seem to be the favored game type however; its just something we can have friendly rivalries. A game we recently have have been playing is NHL 2010 on Xbox 360.
I; not knowing much about the rules of hockey not alone what teams are good or what makes a team good, just picked a Canadian team because I remembered it was their national sport. After much criticism for picking them, I quickly learned it was an excellent choice. The goalie - I now know a very key player - is of top caliber, and literally saved games for me.
One particular rival and I always seem to end up tied even after an OT period resulting in a shoot out. This ends up being in my favor. Somehow or another I always seem to win because I stop and deke over and over again till I just confuse the goalie and win with a shot high left corner.
Some other games we play are Madden, UFC, Mario Kart 64, and COD MW2. Depending on the year of Madden my team is usually the Philadelphia Eagles. Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook do work. Then newer 'versions' have Terrell Owens and Michael Vick; can't lose. UFC I just concentrate on boxing and kicking and defending/avoiding ground attacks. Mario Kart 64 is just the best; battle mode can't be beat. All COD titles are great, give me the hand guns, head shots only... watch out.

Desktop and gadget enhancement.
The only reason I use Microsoft products is because they have a death grip on everything to deal with software capability and I don't have the money for a mac- there are certain(most) programs I have to use though that only work on windows.
To start things off, I remove the windows shell, Explorer - its slow and uses a lot of system resources. I've used shell manipulations for some time now, and my favorite is bblean. It's sleek, uses very little resources and allows for so many add-ons and customization. One of the features I use is the multi-desktops - modeled off of linux; it allows me to organization things very easily. Next is the style; my favorite is Nexus. Then after adding some plug-ins, I download Winamp and Firefox.
I use winamp because it has many, many plug-ins and themes, and most importantly, uses very little system resources.
Firefox is currently the best browser out there today - google chrome I've tried, it has crashed every system I install it on; and lets face it Internet Explorer just sucks. Firefox also allows themes and plug-ins. Some of my must haves are: Yoono, Hootsuite, Add-This, Fire.fm, FoxTab, CoolIris, and many more.

Cooking
Installment 002 of 'best of the week'
While due to culture norms, society, etc... - or whatever you politically correct out there would say- guys traditionally don't do much cooking, while some/most barely know how to work a microwave; I, thanks to my mother and others, actually enjoy cooking and fancy myself pretty good at it as a result of their 'teachings.' While most of my style and methods come from my mother, technique came from cooking classes and books. I feel like with the right recipe and equipment I can make anything. I make much less off the top of my head, while practically religiously altering any and all recipes. I say all this, just to set the following up and hopefully make it even more funny what I did.
Now, keep in mind, I am a college student; and if you learned anything from last week I'm kind of a procrastinator. So in short, I'm lazy and I'm cheap; I don't cook a lot nor anything fancy - not that I can't... I just haven't found reason to recently, lol. So there is a bake sale going on, today actually, and last night we made some brownies for it... First batch: forgot the Pam in the glass Pyrex dish. So we ate them. Went to bed planning to get up and go to my 8am then make brownies again.
Well... didn't wake up for my 8am class. Got up, walked and fed the dog, went and got more brownie mix, cutting time close now because I needed to do homework and shower and what have you before noon. Get the brownies out of the oven, turn it off and... Like an idiot, thinking I can start moving the brownies around immediately I try to place them onto a plate and fail hardcore; the center stays stuck to the dish because this time I got double chocolate brownie mix - which if you haven't had before, stop reading this and go get some so you can better understand - I forgot to whisk the mix fine enough and that resulted in chocolate chucks forming in the middle of the mix and I also forgot to let the entire thing cool and solidify enough before attempting the transfer. Third time was the charm though, literally. With 15 or so minutes to spare.

Procrastination
To bring focus to this blog, I'm going to make posts relating to what I feel I did best the past week. Keeping in mind if anything is worth effort it is worth my full effort; success and failure alike.
NOTICE: DON"T TRY THIS AT HOME; as procratination is not for everyone.
So while so might say it would not be a good thing to procrastinate, I decided to see how good I was at procrastinating. By the end of the week I realized I'm really good at procrastinating, I seemingly am able to block time right before things need to be done. Now while my stress is greatly increased from such actions, I found my self getting to now others better, listening a little more, be more willing and able to help with something/projects at a moments notice. I do however, if you might notice, fail to get this blog entry done on time, approximately a week late; I failed to write down on the 'To-Do' list to make this blog entry. So besides that, procrastinating actually worked out well for me I feel. I got almost 100% of my 'To-Do' list and so much more. Keep in mind however the negative side, the greatly increased stress levels from waiting till the last minute. Dealing with stress is a whole another story for another day.

Learning Installment for the day
So if you press the 'control' key on a mac and then move the mouse 'track-ball' the entire screen zooms; it was crazy. I also learned today that I really don't like the cold wind, I don't mind wind, or the cold... but both together suck.

Living and Learning
You know how some people say you live and you learn. Today/tonight I realized that it is at least partially true, we live and learn about our selves and probably just as important; we learn about others...
Watch what you say, watch you do... this isn't the land of the free... its the land of wait and see...

Fun week
This week has and will continue to be crazy. Its rush week, although its spring rush we are still giving a lot of attention, time and effort into things. Great week, but I can't wait for it to be over honestly.
